Position description

Danish Refugee Council/Danish Demining Group (DRC/DDG) is one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, working in more than 40 countries to provide adequate assistance with a rights-based approach to refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons, returnees and migrants. DRC/DDG is currently looking for a highly qualified Spanish and English-speaking Livelihoods Coordinator fo 4 to 6 months contract (renewable depending on funding) in Colombia. This is an opportunity for an experienced and dynamic professional to support and strengthen DRC / DDG program in Colombia.

About the role

The Interim Livelihoods Coordinator will have a country focus in assisting DRC to better understand the context for potential livelihoods interventions in Colombia and lead in the development of an Economic Recovery Strategy for the country operation. Supporting economic recovery is a cornerstone of DRC programmes globally. Economic Recovery programming combines a range of different types of interventions, all ultimately aiming at supporting conflict and displacement-affected people in regaining, protecting, and enhancing their economic wellbeing: from contributing to meeting their basic needs in terms of food security in emergency contexts, to recovering and/or strengthening resilient livelihoods and gaining sustainable access to financial services. In Colombia, DRC is a leading actor in rapidly responding to the protection needs of Venezuelan refugees and migrants, and through the provision of multipurpose cash assistance to meet basic needs. The opportunities to attract funding for Economic Recovery programming in Colombia are anticipated to grow with the regularization of Venezuelan migrants and refugees, and as such, DRC Colombia requires the development of a coherent strategy for Economic Recovery involving the engagement and coordination of multiple stakeholders throughout the country operation.

Main responsibilities

  • Map scope of livelihoods sector in Colombia
  • Conduct sector needs assessments and engages in strategic analysis of livelihoods sector in Colombia
  • Draft an Economic Recovery Strategy for the country operation
  • Provide technical and programmatic guidance to Economic Recovery staff
  • Develop project proposals and budgets for funding
  • Develop any tools required for project implementation and reporting
  • Collaborate with relevant internal and external technical experts on issues related to the relevant sector
  • Represent DRC at relevant coordination meetings.

Roles reporting to this position: N/A. Reports to: Head of Programme.

Experience and technical competencies:

  • Minimum 5 years of practical experience in sector area working for an INGO
  • Demonstrated knowledge of livelihoods programming and experience implementing livelihoods programming in fragile contexts
  • Documented skills in project planning and design, drafting, calculation and technical writing
  • Excellent skill in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience in project development
  • Experience working with national partners, local/government authorities, and UN organizations

Required education

  • Relevant university degree (e.g. political science, international development, or economics)
