Global Press Journal seeks a contract story editor with strong writing skills and a knack for narrative storytelling who wants to work with reporters around the world to produce unique, consequential stories.
The story editor will coach, line edit and restructure translated articles in collaboration with reporters. These will range from local news stories to investigative features. This person will lead a story through the editorial process with the support of fact checkers, copy editors and translators to ensure accuracy, news value and adherence to GPJ ethics and style.
The story editor must be able to commit to editing a minimum of four stories per month and participate in at least one editorial meeting per month. The contract begins with a per-story payment. Exceptional editors will be eligible for a substantial monthly retainer contract or a full-time opportunity with Global Press Journal.
• Five to seven years of journalism experience, with at least one as an editor
• Experience working with translators and maintaining accuracy in translated stories
• Experience working with diverse global teams, with a preference for regional expertise in Latin America; secondary preference for regional expertise in East Africa, Southeast Asia and the Caribbean
• Fluency in English with masterful grasp of grammar and AP style is a must; fluency in Spanish is preferred
