The ICCT is looking for an experienced model developer (Researcher level position) to join our Modeling Center and further develop our suite of models for the global transportation sector. These models support our policy-relevant research to decarbonize and improve the environmental performance of on-road vehicles, aircraft, and ships in all regions. You will report to our Modeling Center Manager.

 

You Will:

  • Lead development of our suite of models for the global transportation sector to meet the evolving policy-relevant research needs of ICCT’s modeling center and program teams
  • Design and develop new models, implement and release feature upgrades to existing models, and develop databases and data management systems in close coordination with research staff
  • Draft model documentation, release notes, and training materials
  • Train and provide technical support to multiple ICCT teams to utilize and run these models
  • Apply these models in collaboration with multiple ICCT teams to quantify the implications of transportation policies and technologies on emissions, costs, air quality, and public health
  • Supervise and mentor ICCT interns and fellows

Qualifications

  • M.S. or Ph.D. (or Bachelor of Science degree, with 2–4 years relevant experience) in engineering, science, transportation, or related field
  • 5+ years of applicable experience designing, building, and maintaining configurable software for systems modeling in energy and environmental fields
  • Excellent demonstrated skills writing clean, testable, and maintainable Python code with a focus on data management and manipulation (experience with Pandas is a huge plus)
  • Experience leading applied research on climate and environmental policies for the transportation sector
  • Strong interpersonal and English communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Great organization, collaboration, and creative problem-solving skills

 

This full-time position will be based either in our San Francisco or Washington, D.C. office. Your salary will be $77,400 (DC) and $85,100 (SF). We offer an excellent benefits package including health insurance, paid vacation and family leave, a 401k plan with generous 7% employer contribution, hybrid office/remote flexibilities, transportation subsidy, and other benefits.
