YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE TO ENDING WORLD HUNGER BY ...

working with the Impact and Resource Mobilization Team, reporting to the Associate Director of Research, and will be tasked with connecting the dots between research, innovation, and learning with teams across the organization. It is a highly facilitative role in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and will require outstanding interpersonal, communication, and project management skills.

  • Purpose:  Amplifies impact by capitalizing on partnerships, designing and managing special projects, and mobilizing resources in order to strategically position Action Against Hunger as a technical leader.
  • Engagement: Collaborates and communicates across the Impact & Resource Mobilization team, and the wider Action Against Hunger office(s) and network, to strengthen internal network collaboration and build stronger strategic partnerships globally.
  • Delivery: Leads and facilitates broad, high-level discussions on hunger and nutrition research, and uses the results of these discussions to contribute to and expand upon the existing evidence baseThe Senior Special Projects Officer – Research & Learning will leverage Action Against Hunger’s evidence, expertise, and partnerships to demonstrate the organization as a leader in the global conversation on research, nutrition, and hunger. The position will drive the design and implementation of a series of special projects aimed at catalyzing the strengths of Action Against Hunger towards improved decision-making and lasting change.

KEY ACTIVITIES IN YOUR ROLE WILL INCLUDE

The specific responsibilities of the Senior Special Projects Officer – Research & Learning include:

Positioning and Partnerships

  • Strategically position and reinforce Action Against Hunger’s organizational brand awareness, in alignment with activities of the global Impact & Resource Mobilization team.
  • Leverage partnerships with US-based stakeholders in the research, nutrition, and hunger space (e.g. USG agencies, universities, private foundations, corporate donors, etc.) for increased collaboration and collective action.
  • Capitalize on the strengths of Action Against Hunger’s network to ensure that the breadth of our activities and expertise is well-represented internally and externally, especially to US-based audiences.
  • Collaborate across departments and teams, such as advocacy, external relations, and business development, to ensure positive replication of partnerships and engagement models.

Project Design and Management

  • Lead the implementation of special, high-profile projects, events, and/or initiatives that demonstrate Action Against Hunger as a global catalyst for improved decision-making and lasting change. The Senior Special Projects Officer – Research & Learning will:
  • Ensure a participatory launch process through working groups and interactive dialogue that builds interest in research and learning, as well as ownership for these projects across Action Against Hunger’s network. 
  • Lead the day-to-day management of these projects, making sure they are implemented on-time, on-budget, and with the highest quality execution.
  • Evaluate the impact of these projects in achieving their intended goals for improved decision-making and lasting change through surveys or other means.
  • Develop project-related content (e.g. products and materials) that articulates technical results and ensures consistent, on-brand messaging, in collaboration with communications teams.
  • Disseminate and translate the evidence generated by these special projects for a variety of target audiences to ensure lasting change and effect.
  • Support the pursuit and design of new programs, in collaboration with Associate Directors and other members of the broader Impact & Resource Mobilization team, especially those relating to large, multi-year, US-Government funding opportunities.
  • Any other duties, as assigned.

Communications and Dissemination of Evidence

  • Utilize data and data visualization techniques/tools to translate concrete and complex results into an easily digestible and engaging form.
  • Drive internal dissemination towards systematic integration of evidence into policies, programming and positioning to advance Action Against Hunger’s US strategy implementation.
  • In collaboration with external relations, advance external thought leadership through communication of research findings in high-profile outlets (e.g. media, blogs, etc.)
