Position description

The British Government in Germany is based at the British Embassy in Berlin and our Consulates General in Dusseldorf and Munich. We are part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Trade Adviser – Export Growth based in Dusseldorf.

Are you interested in helping UK companies grow their international business? Do you thrive through delivering a high-quality service to customers? Would you like to make an impact in a fast-moving, high-profile international environment? We are recruiting a Trade Adviser to join the Department for International Trade’s (DIT) Export Growth Team (EGT) in Germany.

Exports are a critical part of the economy, they support millions of jobs, drive economic growth, raise wages and improve living standards around the world. As a member DIT Germany's Export Growth Team you will play a crucial role supporting our work and helping businesses to succeed overseas.

The EGT is the first point of contact for British companies looking for information about doing business in Germany.

The core aim of the job is to help high potential British exporters to win business in Germany. This is done by delivering practical support, including information on market potential, routes to market, representation and clients. The team have a varied portfolio and the support offered to companies is tailored to their needs.

You will work to support business through desk research, the writing of reports and trade fair visits. You will have the opportunity to support DIT’s wider promotional programme in Germany and the UK. This includes presenting at webinars and attending events and trade missions.

As with all DIT positions, there will be a focus on working collaboratively with colleagues across the DIT Network. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the DIT Regional Enquiry Hub, based in Prague, and DIT’s Export Support Service network in the UK. Joint working with colleagues in similar roles in Europe will be essential.

The work will be varied and demanding and the successful candidate will need to be a flexible, committed self-starter, able to juggle priorities and work to demanding deadlines.

The role offers the right candidate plenty of scope for career development and building networks. There is scope to deliver projects that contribute to EGT targets based on your own interests and areas of expertise.

Prior commercial knowledge or experience in undertaking research would be an advantage, but not a requirement.
