The Climate Mitigation Program Manager assists in the development and implementation of the US Climate Mitigation Program at TNC and helps support execution of TNC’s climate mitigation strategies through program and strategy management.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

The Climate Mitigation Program Manager leads program and strategy management to advance TNC’s U.S. Climate Mitigation Program, which consists of three strategies: US Climate Action, Natural Climate Solutions, and Renewable Energy Deployment. They support climate mitigation program leadership by managing priority projects, tracking progress against program goals, and efficiently allocating program and project support across the climate mitigation team. They serve as a key liaison and informational contact between the climate mitigation team and other TNC staff. The Climate Mitigation Program Manager will lead development of program plans, budgets, and metrics with input and buy-in from key stakeholders and team members. They will manage and support cross-functional teams, networks, and collaborative processes to achieve program and strategy goals. They will also lead reporting to support fundraising, donor stewardship and strategy tracking. They will define roles and responsibilities, recruit, and lead a program management team to successfully achieve identified goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

 

  • Conducts research and analysis.
  • Assists in developing reports, presentations and assessments on topics related to the climate mitigation program.
  • Works within a budget to complete projects, negotiates and contracts with vendors and leads budget development and strategic financial management.
  • Coordinate the work of cross-functional teams towards a desired outcome.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information including fundraising data and salary information.
  • Develop and implement new initiatives, particularly around strategy management, team management, and network collaboration, that will ensure department and organization-wide goals and strategies are achieved.
  • Ensure programmatic commitments, Conservancy policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance; decisions may bind the organization financially or legally.
  • Manage fundraising, donor stewardship, and strategy results reporting processes.
  • Manage networks and collaborative processes to advance internal coordination across U.S. Climate Mitigation Program.
  • Manage and implement multiple complex projects, including managing project teams, setting deadlines, and ensuring accountability.
  • May manage or participate in complex negotiations.
  • Supervise one or more administrative or professional staff, including training and professional development.
  • May require gaining cooperation of team over whom there is no direct supervisory authority.
  • Travel occasionally, working flexible hours as needed.
  • Work within scope of program’s strategic goals.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, international relations, international development, social science, natural science, ecology or related field and at least 5 years related experience, or equivalent combination.
  • Experience in research, critical analysis, and evaluating information from divergent sources and compiling it into cohesive reports.
  • Experience writing and editing promotional and informational material.
  • Experience presenting to and/or communicating with government or legislative staff, community or business leaders, program leadership and/or similar audiences.
  • Experience with time management.
  • Experience in managing and tracking multiple projects.
  • Experience managing project teams and working with cross-functional staff.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Critical analytical thinking and excellent English writing skills are essential.
  • Deep knowledge of, and fluency in, climate change mitigation.
  • Familiarity and knowledge related to business, governmental, and/or environmental policy and practices pertaining to climate change mitigation.
  • Ability to sensitively advise other staff on how to effectively engage with internal and external parties.
  • Ability to develop and drive new ideas and approaches.
  • Ability to work well in a highly matrixed, decentralized and collaborative organization. Possesses strong interpersonal skills and political savvy. Must be a team player.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet time sensitive deadlines.
  • NGO and/or corporate relations experience a strong plus.
