The Washington Post is seeking an investigative correspondent based in Europe or Asia as part of a growing team dedicated to delivering deeply reported, high-impact stories and projects that break news on subjects of major international importance.
We will be looking for highly accomplished candidates with a strong record of delivering attention-getting investigative work. The strongest candidates will have broad reporting backgrounds from outside the United States that would include expertise in one or more subjects important to The Post’s international coverage, such as China, Russia, the climate, technology and human rights.
The correspondent will operate as part of a new team headed by an international investigations editor that is part of a significant 2022 initiative. The team will add new capacity to help The Post deliver on its commitment to scrutinize power in all its forms, including internationally, with an emphasis on revelatory work that brings important new information to light.
We are seeking a correspondent who has demonstrated an ability to conceive and deliver strong investigative projects with a global reach. The successful candidate will have the discipline and tenacity to successfully execute multi-month reporting efforts but also the agility to pivot when the news cycle demands. The strongest candidates will possess the experience and sourcing needed to identify promising, achievable targets – and the collaborative skills needed to work well with others, whether they are international investigative consortia or other teams within The Post.
In terms of location and reporting focus, we are willing to consider configurations that offer the best chance of success. Our current staff includes international investigations reporters based in London and some in Washington; for this job, we expect to choose among candidates already established in Europe or Asia with a record of success in delivering consequential investigations on international subjects of high priority to The Post.
