Position description

The Danish Embassy in Brussels is hiring a new colleague to work with public affairs and commercial cases for Danish companies and organisations within the health & life science sector and biotech – supporting corporate public affairs interest towards the EU institutions and developing the market in Belgium/Benelux. You will join the Trade Council Brussels’ public affairs & commercial team and work closely with our colleagues in The Hague and EU.

You have good business insights and a passion for business economics, EU public affairs, exports, networking and customer relations. You are a team player with drive and initiative who can advise Danish companies on business matters and create value for your clients. As advisor you will report to the Head of Corporate Public Affairs and Trade. Our team has a strong focus on sectors like: Digital/tech, health/life science, energy/sustainability/green economy and digital sales/e-commerce, where Denmark has strong business interest. You will work closely with colleagues in the region and contribute to cross-regional projects as a part of the Trade Council’s global sector team structure.

The new advisor will join a dynamic team focusing on creating value for Danish companies and implementing the Danish Government Strategy for Economic Diplomacy. There is significant demand for the services provided by the Danish Trade Council – not least after the Covid-19 lockdown. The job comprises direct interaction with large Danish life science and biotech companies and SME’s to assist them in achieving commercial success – with a special attention to public affairs engagement within the health/life science/biotech files, which is high on the agenda in the EU and Belgium. Prior expertise with EU public affairs is required and knowledge about the business opportunities in Brussels or from Denmark will be a significant advantage. We are a small team and value flexibility as well as readiness to solving tasks outside your main areas of responsibilities. The position requires travel in the Benelux countries and Denmark.

Required qualifications:

  • Preferably 5+ years of experience from an international company, consultancy work, government related institution or similar.
  • A business or academic degree in economics, political science, trade or other relevant combination.
  • Experience from the health, life science or biotech areas with EU public affairs consultancy/commercial work (EU or Belgian market) will be a requirement.
  • Knowledge of how the Danish Trade Council works will be an advantage.
  • A positive, open-minded, pro-active, results-oriented and energetic attitude to handling of assignments.
  • A structured mindset, good project planning, coordination and communication skills.
  • Excellent command of English oral and written is essential.
  • Comprehensive command of French and/or Danish (oral and written) are strong assets.
  • Great interpersonal skills and team player abilities as well as interest in and willingness to share knowledge with – and learn from – colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently with commercial clients and public contacts.
