Position description


The Shaikh Group (TSG) is seeking to hire part-time Reporting Officers to join the team working on its Iraq Initiative. Through this project, The Shaikh Group aims to positively contribute toward key transformation processes in Iraq including toward accountable governance, diversified and equitable economic opportunity, and alternative state-society and centre-periphery relations, by strengthening shared understandings and developing consensus-driven proposals on relevant reform initiatives at the local/provincial and national level.



The Reporting Officers will contribute directly to facilitating workshops in each of the four axes of the project (Baghdad, Basra, Mosul, Erbil) amd to engaging with Iraqi stakeholders at all levels. They will report to the Political Officers-Axis Coordinators and they will be responsible for drafting reports, advocacy papers and briefings related to project outcomes. They will be located in Baghdad, Basra, Mosul and Erbil. 



  • A university degree in relevant discipline (e.g. Middle East studies, political science, international relations).
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong understanding of Middle East and international affairs, with a focus on Iraq.
  • Excellent political research and analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication, drafting and editing skills in English.
  • Fluent spoken and written Arabic.
  • Ability to take initiative and to execute multiple tasks in a responsible and organized manner, as a member of a team.
  • Ability to travel as required. 


  • Previous experience working on Iraq.
  • Previous experience working on mediation support or peacebuilding.
