Position description

Sesame Workshop is exploring the development of a global network of Early Childhood Development (ECD) researchers. The development of this network will support facilitation of Sesame Workshop research around the world, while also create a space where researchers are able to build and make connections with other ECD researchers.

To better understand the strengths and opportunities of existing networks, as well as the needs of ECD researchers that could be served through a global ECD research network, we are seeking a consultant who will provide Sesame Workshop with a global understanding of what networks already exist, how they operate, and successes and challenges around engagement and execution of the network. That understanding will provide the foundation for a series of recommendations for Sesame Workshop to either leverage an existing network as a potential partner or identify the need for a more inclusive, representative network of ECD researchers.

The consultant will be expected to complete the following deliverables, in consultation with Sesame Workshop:

• Conduct review of existing global ECD research networks. Data sources could include desk review, qualitative interviews and/or focus groups, or quantitative surveys. Review should cover, at a minimum, the following for each network:

-Services offered
- Types of research
- Contexts of interest (ex: education in emergencies)
- Membership requirements
- Engagement expectations
- Incentives for engagement
- Platform specs
- Outputs

• Map existing global ECD research networks, including a mapping of
- Location of existing members
- Geographic expertise of membership base

• Series of recommendations for Sesame Workshop in developing, or leveraging an existing, global ECD research network

Deliverable timeline: 

  • Research design 12 December 2022
  • Draft report (inclusive of review, mapping, and recommendations) 3 February 2023
  • Final report (inclusive of review, mapping, and recommendations) 24 February 2023
  • Topline summary of final report 28 February 2023

Proposal Components

Proposals shall include a provision for delivery of the following elements:

1. Research Design: Proposals shall outline the design of the study, including a description
of research tools and proposed list of key informants and data analysis plan to meet timeline expectations

2. Budget: A detailed budget for the project shall be submitted with the research proposal

3. Consultant CV

4. Examples of past evaluations and references:

  • a. A 1-2-page description of similar or comparable studies in which the agency has engaged in the past, or similar work samples
  • b. Contact information for at least 2 previous clients for refer
