Position description

Eurometaux (Europe’s metals association) is an industry association for the European non-ferrous metals industry, providing an interface with European authorities and international or intergovernmental bodies. The membership includes companies, European associations, and national associations for mining, refining, smelting and recycling of critical raw materials in Europe (aluminium, copper, nickel, zinc, silicon, lithium, cobalt, etc). Non-ferrous metals are energy transition enablers, being used in electric vehicles, batteries, solar panels, electricity cables, buildings etc.

Eurometaux is currently recruiting 1 policy officer to join its Energy and Climate Change department:

  • Reporting to: Energy and Climate Change Director;
  • Suggested starting date: As soon as possible.

As Energy and Climate Change Policy Officer, you will:

  • Monitor, analyse and brief Eurometaux’ members on legislative and policy developments, in particular the electricity market design, energy policy, energy prices and industrial competitiveness, state aid and financing mechanisms, upcoming Clean Industrial Deal;
  • Support the Energy and Climate Change Director in identifying risks and opportunities related to EU legislative and policy developments on energy and climate change;
  • Prepare monthly Committee meetings with over 60 senior company members and EU Affairs Specialists;
  • Contribute to Eurometaux’ advocacy for an enabling policy framework for electro-intensive industries;
  • Draft position papers, consultations responses and power point presentations and ensure their timely delivery;
  • Represent the metals industry in external events towards the EU institutions and other stakeholders;
  • Develop relationships with EU institutions, industry peers, other business associations, NGOs, thinktanks etc. to disseminate industry’s messages and strengthen Eurometaux’ position in various fora we are member of.

Requirements and competencies

  • An appropriate university degree, such as law, political science, (energy) economics or engineering;
  • Ideally, 2-5 years of relevant expertise on climate and energy legislation and/or energy intensive industries, critical raw materials;
  • Ability to understand and manage complex technical aspects of power markets regulations;
  • Excellent organizational and communication (oral and writing) skills in English; knowledge of other EU language is an advantage;
  • Ability to learn fast and work independently, be proactive and adapt to a variety of tasks.
