Position description

The European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) is looking to recruit a full-time Senior/Policy Advisor Social Affairs to support ECSA’s policy and outreach work on social affairs.

ABOUT ECSA

ECSA is the umbrella organization of 21 national shipowners’ associations of the EU and Norway. European shipowners represent around 40% of the world’s shipping fleet. ECSA’s prime task is to represent the interests of the European shipowners with the institutions of the European Union.

YOUR TASKS

  • Monitor EU policy and contribute to the implementation of ECSA policy priorities, working together with the Senior Director for Social Affairs;
  • Contribute proactively to technical and policy discussions at EU and international level on social and legal policy developments;
  • Prepare ECSA’s policy positions in close cooperation with the members;
  • Actively manage outreach activities, representing ECSA’s interests towards the European policymakers and relevant stakeholders;
  • Work closely and maintain a strong relationship with relevant stakeholders including ECSA’s social partners in the EU’s sectoral social dialogue;
  • Develop and maintain an extensive network with EU policymakers, relevant EU and international associations and stakeholders;
  • Coordinate the relevant committees, working groups, social sectoral dialogue and other meetings.

YOUR PROFILE

  • A relevant academic degree and 3-7 years of experience in a similar position. The position and job description will be adjusted based on the experience level of the successful candidate;
  • Knowledge of relevant maritime social regulations at international and EU level (STCW, MLC) is not required but will be considered an advantage;
  • Strong communication and negotiations skills, being able to present complex topics in a simple way and find common ground between different positions;
  • Quick learner, being able to contribute to policy work on a wide range of dossiers;
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment;
  • Team player, able to collaborate with different team members and departments to support the policy objectives of the organisation;
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing in English. Fluency in another language will be considered an advantage.
