Position description

Purdue Political Science is seeking applications for Limited Term Lecturers to teach introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in the areas of American Politics, Constitutional Law, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Security, Technology and Policy, Environmental Policy. We have courses available both on campus in West Lafayette and online beginning as early as January 2025. 

Depending on experience and qualification, there may be some opportunities to teach online courses at the 500 level (Master's) related to public policy, technology, AI, and data analytics.

LTL positions are temporary, non-benefits eligible, part-time positions hired each semester on an as-needed basis. We are hiring positions for spring, summer, and fall semesters of 2025.

Primary Responsibilities

The Primary Responsibilities of successful candidates will be to:

  • Teach courses in Political Science and Public Policy in the mode needed for the course (online or on campus, depending on the course). 
  • Deliver curriculum that aligns with required student learning outcomes. For some courses, the curriculum will be based on a defined syllabus and/or learning materials 
  • Maintain office hours and provide feedback to students in a timely manner 
  • Maintain FERPA certification 
  • Assist with program-related duties and administrative tasks, orientation, proctoring, student evaluations, curriculum and program review 
  • Understand and adhere to University policies and guidelines 
  • Have competency in effective and appropriate online (synchronous and asynchronous) delivery and in-person instruction. 

Qualifications for this position:

A Master's degree or PhD in Political Science or a closely related field (minimum 18 hours of graduate work in Political Science) is required. A J.D. may substitute for those interested in teaching courses related to the law and legal institutions. Successful candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate both orally and in writing in English. Candidates must have demonstrated experience teaching at the college level or relevant professional experience.
