Position description

The Department of Politics and International Relations invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position specializing in American politics (any subfield).

RESPONSIBILITIES

We seek a teacher-scholar broadly trained in political science who is interested in strengthening the department’s commitment to active learning. The successful candidate will teach Introduction to American Government and upper-level courses on American political institutions and Constitutional interpretation as well as other courses related to the candidate’s area of interest. The successful candidate will also maintain a productive research program that will support undergraduate student achievement. The successful candidate will be expected to advise and mentor students, so applicants should be interested in contributing to student success and expanding opportunities for experiential learning, e.g. by supervising internships, directing student research and honors projects, and contributing to community-based learning initiatives. All full-time faculty members also contribute to academic advising for students in the Politics major as well as small groups of first-year students across majors.

The Ursinus College faculty is a diverse community of teacher-scholars dedicated to providing transformative experiences for a diverse student body in a highly reflective process embedded in our core curriculum. As part of its commitment to liberal education, all entering students participate in a seminar course called the Common Intellectual Experience with a common syllabus. As the aim of this course is to foster an intellectual community on campus, the successful candidate will contribute to the teaching of this course every few years.
