Position description

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced journalist to join a fast growing publishing company’s 12-strong trans-Atlantic editorial team.

The post is to provide maternity cover until 1 March 2018. But CW Research is planning to expand in the US and it is likely there will be a permanent post available in the editorial team after this date.

Supported by the North America deputy desk editor, you will maintain our top quality online coverage of chemicals management policy, regulatory developments, industry initiatives and NGO campaigns in North America.

Reporting to the Global News Editor, you will be writing and editing daily news and features for the North America section of the Chemical Watch news website and Chemical Watch's Global Business Briefing, plus articles for Chemical Watch's sister websites, Chemical Risk Manager, Asia Hub and Biocides Hub, and for ad hoc reports. The ideal candidate will have a sound knowledge of the new Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) and the US regulatory process, or the ability to rapidly acquire it.

Home-based, and ideally within easy reach of Washington DC, you will be expected to attend and speak at conferences (including our own in the US) and other events, and there may be occasional international trips.

While you will be in touch with your fellow home-working journalists throughout your working day, there will also be opportunities for team meetings in the UK and US.

To succeed in this position, you will need at least two years' experience in writing and editing news for a business readership; you will be able to prove that you can write efficiently, accurately and tailor your writing for different audiences. You will enjoy talking to people, want to learn about this important agenda and relish the reputation that comes from readers respecting what you write.
