Position description

Evidence Action aims to be a world leader in scaling evidence-based and cost-effective programs to reduce the burden of poverty for hundreds of millions of people in the poorest places. Our two flagship programs, Deworm the World and Dispensers for Safe Water, reached over 200 million people this year. These same programs, alongside our No Lean Season program, have been named “Top” or “Standout” charities by GiveWell in 2017, with Deworm the World being named a Top Charity for the fifth year in a row. In parallel to these scaled programs, Evidence Action also runs a Beta function, which incubates and tests at-scale promising new development interventions that have the potential to support millions more. Together, these programs have a presence across 10 countries worldwide, with major offices in Washington, DC, Nairobi, Kenya, and Delhi, India. 

Job Purpose 

This role exists to support the external content creation and coordination of Evidence Action’s Communication and Fundraising Department. This includes both written and graphic design content creation. The internship will last 5 months (January through June 2017) and requires a commitment of 20 hours a week. The intern will work closely with Evidence Action’s Communications and Fundraising Coordinator to convert existing information into engaging visual and text materials that can be used for a variety of external communications and donor engagement needs. This is an opportunity for an entrepreneurial individual to contribute to the external identity of a growing international development organization. The intern may be eligible for a small stipend. 

Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Produce written and visual communications content
  • Written and graphic design content to support programs through social media posts, presentation decks, talking points, etc.
  • Manage social media content and calendar
  • Manage posting of daily content calendar
  • Create content in keeping with Evidence Action’s brand and organizational identity
  • Propose social media and other communication campaigns
  • Draft external communications content (blog posts, presentation decks, graphics, brochures)
  • Assist with communications and fundraising research
  • Develop prospective major donor list
  • Develop journalist outreach database and pitches


  • Bachelor’s degree. Preference for specialization in public relations, journalism, English, International Relations, or related field
  • Strong written communications skills
  • Competence in popular forms of social media
  • Proficiency in using personal computer and various office software packages including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, calendaring, and email management
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Basic graphic design skills (Illustrator and/or InDesign)
  • Experience contributing to the creation of marketing materials preferred
  • An ability to multi-task and track multiple projects
