Position description

International Alert works with people directly affected by conflict to build lasting peace. Together, we believe peace is within our power. We focus on solving the root causes of conflict, bringing together people from across divides. From the grassroots to policy level, we come together to build everyday peace.

Background

International Alert is a global organisation whose people are its most valuable asset. Capacity building (continuing professional development) is at the core of Alert’s ability to achieve its ambitions.

We currently lack effective, institutionalised and accessible approaches to the delivery of core induction and CPD needs of Alert staff globally and we have a very limited central CPD budget.

In 2017 a CPD working group designed a global CPD strategy and agreed CPD priorities for 2018. The new strategy and the priorities include CPD activities ranging from formal classroom training courses and online training through day-to-day activities like reading, coaching and mentoring, experiential learning, webinars, and conferences, with a focus on maximising CPD impact within existing (people and budget) resources. It also relies on coordinating and fostering synergies between training being delivered within Alert which is not centrally driven and the core CPD offering.

The project is already well behind schedule and we lack in-house capacity which combines both the specialist expertise required.

Objectives

The aim of this consultancy is to bring in a specialist who can bring their international perspective to getting Alert’s CPD strategy up and running.

Working alongside and in close cooperation with the HR and IT teams in London, the consultant will deliver the following:

  • Produce report documenting user requirements, pedagogical approaches and suitable open source materials.
  • Suitable platform deployed with initial content
  • Identification of next steps

We envisage that this consultancy will take place in December 2018 and January 2019

Fluent written and spoken English is required. Working use of French would be an advantage.
