The School of Public and International Affairs, in the College of Humanities and Social Science at North Carolina State University, houses the Department of Public Administration, the Department of Political Science, and Masters of International Studies Program, the Public Safety Leadership Initiative, and the Leadership in the Public Sector Online Bachelor’s Degree Completion Program.

The Leadership in the Public Sector (LPS) online bachelor’s degree completion program focuses on leadership in non-market environments. This program is ideal for community college transfers, military personnel and their families as well as other adult learners. All courses necessary for completing the degree are available online. The LPS format allows students the flexibility to complete their bachelor’s degree without adhering to a rigid in-class schedule. Although courses are completed during traditional semesters, students can complete their degree at their own pace. There is also an undergraduate certificate option as well.



Essential Job Duties

The Leadership in the Public Sector (LPS) Online Bachelorac Degree Completion Program in the School of Public and International Affairs is accepting applications for lecturers to teach courses online in state and local government, human resource management in the public sector, judicial politics and any course in the LPS curriculum. The position is a one-semester, non-tenure track appointment with possibility of renewal.

The lecturer must have proven experience teaching online for an accredited academic institution. Continuous communication with the students enrolled in the class, as well as monitoring student progress is required. Familiarity with Moodle LMS desired.

Responsibilities of the Lecturer include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Creating syllabus prior to the first class
  • Providing video lectures or other audio visual learning material
  • Creating and presenting course online activities to student
  • Grading assignments
  • Providing written feedback to students in a timely fashion
  • Determining final course grade
  • Holding office hours virtually
  • Meeting with Program Director and/or Department Head regarding instruction if needed
  • Performing other duties that relate to the course (s) being taught.


Other Work/Responsibilities

The Lecturer is responsible for coordination, planning, preparation, presentation , and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities.


Minimum Education/Experience

Minimum of Master’s Degree in Political Science, Public Administration or related discipline.

Degrees must be received from accredited institutions.



Departmental Required Skills

The following qualifications and skills are required:

  • Excellent communication skills and knowledge and experience in online pedagogical theory and practice.


Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

The following qualifications and skills are preferred, but not required:

  • PhD or doctoral candidate
  • Familiarity with Moodle LMS
