Position description

The National Committee on American Foreign Policy (NCAFP), a nonprofit policy institute based in New York City, is seeking a full-time Program Manager for an immediate start. The Program Manager will assist in event planning/coordination, grant writing, research, and will report directly to the President of the NCAFP. More information on the NCAFP is available at


  • Coordinate the organization of programs, conferences and Track II meetings hosted by the NCAFP. Including all aspects of event planning: identifying participants, preparing agendas and other documents, note-taking, and day-of-event logistics.
  • Lead in all aspects of the research, planning and delivery for a regular public events series.
  • Engage with external partners, thought leaders, and officials to further program goals and objectives.
  • Assist with outreach to, renewals, and expansion of the organization’s membership.
  • Coordination of activities involving the Board of Trustees including organization of regular meetings.
  • Assist in preparing proposals to grant-making organizations; outreach to the business community and other philanthropic entities in support of NCAFP programs.


  • Strong writing, communications, research, organizational and computer skills.
  • Ability to engage with, and quickly move between assignments of varied regional and thematic subject matter.
  • Self-motivated, and adept at managing time among diverse projects and responsibilities.
  • Significant level of tact, diplomacy, and maturity in dealing with internal and external contacts.
  • Flexibility to engage in tasks associated with a dynamic office engaged in a hybrid work environment.


  • Bachelor’s degree required, ideally in international affairs, political science, public policy, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the think tank, public policy, and/or nonprofit sector(s)—ideally with experience planning or managing events.
  • Working knowledge of general trends in international relations and U.S. foreign policy; knowledge of U.S.-Russia relations and/or transatlantic relations preferred.
  • Energetic, collegial personality and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Applicants for this position must be immediately available for employment and possess current U.S. work authorization valid for a minimum of two years from start date.

The position begins in January or February 2022. The NCAFP offers a comprehensive benefits package, including employer-paid medical, vision and dental insurance, an employer-matched retirement plan, in addition to three weeks of annual leave. Salary is commensurate with experience. The Program Manager will be expected to be based in New York City by their agreed start date—no relocation benefits are available.
