About the Program:
The mission of International Education at Pierce College is to foster international relationships and opportunities district-wide through the recruitment and admission of international students, to provide an array of quality student services to assist international students with completion of their studies, and to assist the College in building partnerships on campus and in the community to enhance our multicultural, diverse, and equity-minded perspective and experience.

We are in a rebuilding phase. Currently, we have approximately 150 international students, down from our pre-COVID numbers of approximately 500 from 40 different countries. One third of students are in the Intensive English Program (IEP) and two thirds in college programs. The department has a staff of nine full-time faculty and staff and numerous part-time faculty and staff providing direct support to the program. Most of our students are from East Asia and enter through the IEP and transition to college level courses to complete the Associate degree and transfer to a university. In addition we offer short-term programs with international partnerships and send a small number of students abroad to study.

Currently, the Intensive English Program (IEP) and the departmental offices are located at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom with a few international students enrolled at Pierce College Puyallup. The district goal is to expand opportunities for international students to study at Pierce College Puyallup and to build enrollments at both colleges and to expand short-term partnerships.

The Host Family Program finds suitable homestay placements for students. Our staff assists students in adjusting to life in the USA and assists them in resolution issues that may come up from time to time. We also help students to remain in compliance with immigration regulations by monitoring student progress and travel plans, and by monitoring their SEVIS records.

We have a 63-bed residence hall (Center for Global Scholars) that is 5 minutes from Pierce College Fort Steilacoom. Approximately 50% of those in the CGS are international students.
