Position description

Please note that our interview process includes a demonstration of prior work, a product management challenge as well as references.

Position Overview:

  • Reports to: Executive Director
  • Works with: Our full-stack developer
  • Compensation package: $30 to $50/hour based on skill and experience
  • Weekly Hours: 25 to 40 hours (with 40 hours, you are eligible for a benefits package)

The Role:
We are seeking an Associate Product Manager/Product Manager for the next 9-12 months. This is a great chance to leverage your PM foundation for difference-making products and services for justice-impacted communities.

We believe this position is a great fit for someone looking to greatly expand specifically their early-stage product experience (especially if you are interested in financial products).

You will collaborate directly with the founders of the company and our full-stack developer to co-design and implement a full-fledged product strategy and game plan (product roadmap). You aren’t fully starting from scratch, our immediate product priority is to get a few minimum viable products (MVPs) out the door and validate. You will focus on “How do we build it?” (“it” being an early stage prototype) by updating our current barebones user stories, crafting user personas, creating prototypes and testing hypotheses. You will also balance that with “what we should build” which will include the creation of new user stories and user interviews. Lastly, this may include work around pricing strategies or distribution strategies.

In sum, you will use our learnings gained through prior user research to design MVPs, build cost scenarios (determining economics of a particular feature or product), revenue scenarios (when applicable) and get the traction needed to fundraise for building beyond an MVP. In collaboration with the CEO, you will co-manage new products from designs to prototypes, specifications, and to live deployments during private and public betas. This will likely include design of integrations with no-code platforms and third-party financial APIs.

Preview of our draft product plans:

  • A rewards system (gift cards and cash rewards) for documented financial progress
  • A debit card that can also build credit
  • A free tool that provides an actionable summary of their current credit status
  • Digitally disbursed micro-loans to help individuals build their credit and increase their financial stability
  • Equitable, cost-efficient, distribution of debt relief loans to get community members out of predatory lending agreements
  • Digital subscription for reentry organizations that want to access finEQUITY.org’s financial capabilities curriculum

Preferred Qualifications:

  • We encourage all applicants to apply, but please consider our desired qualifications:
  • Experience evaluating APIs alongside an engineering team
  • Experience writing effective product requirements or specifications
  • Experience crafting user stories and user personas
  • Prior internship or bootcamp experience in an associate product manager role or product manager role
  • Experience in creating a product prototype to test feasibility
  • Experience evaluating economics and build/buy decision
  • Ability to communicate advanced technical concepts clearly to non-developers
  • Ability to thrive in environments with both synchronous and asynchronous collaboration
  • Willingness to learn what it takes to reach our impact metrics and internal operational goals
  • Comfortability with strategic use of low-code automations to create cohesive, user-friendly experiences
  • Strong understanding of webhooks and API testing
  • Coding experience (bonus)
