Position description

Birmingham-Southern College seeks candidates for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Political Science position for AY 2023-2024 with the possibility of annual renewal. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Political Science. However, ABD candidates with teaching experience will be considered. 

The ideal candidate should be a broadly trained Americanist with solid quantitative methodological skills, experience teaching Introduction to American Government and Politics, American Political Behavior, and American Presidency and Congress, and the ability to advise students on their Senior Capstone Project. The candidate will be able to teach one or more upper-division courses in their area of specialization. The capability to contribute to the Black Studies Program is also favored.

A residential liberal arts college enrolling approximately 800 undergraduate students, BSC is included in Pope’s Colleges that Change Lives and is a sheltering institution for Phi Beta Kappa. The College recently endured a funding crisis and is in the process of rebuilding the faculty and staff.

The College’s primary mission is to provide an outstanding undergraduate education, and applicants must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. All faculty members are expected to participate fully in the life of the department and College through activities such as academic advising and committee service. The typical teaching load is 3-1-3.
