Position description

Ekō is looking for a Climate Finance Campaigner - Asia Pacific to help us win campaigns against corporations behaving badly. If you love fighting for change, if you are excited about global economic justice, and if you are hungry to experiment with technology to change the world, then this might be the role for you.

This role will primarily focus on developing and executing strategic campaigns to cut off finance to fossil fuel projects. Although your focus will be on targets in Asia, you’ll be working with a global team and wider coalition focussed on disrupting the corporate bond issuances of the world’s worst fossil fuel developers. Our members power our work and we put them at the center of everything we do. This role will be responsible for identifying impactful campaign opportunities, working closely with external partners to develop winning tactics to pressure financial institutions and leverage our member’s power to create fundamental shifts in corporate behaviour.

This is a contractor position, budgeted for up to 40 hours per week at $60-80 AUD per hour.

It is our intention for this opportunity to be 12 months with the possibility of an extension. The role is fully remote and will work closely together with our team in Australia. The role can be undertaken by anyone in a timezone between UTC +6 and UTC +13.

A bit about us

Ekō is a global movement of consumers, investors, and workers standing together to hold corporations accountable for their actions and forge a new and sustainable path for our global economy. We are a movement of more than 21 million people, brought together by a global team of 40+ campaigners, fundraisers, product and operations staff. Our purpose is to challenge corporate power everywhere. We hold the biggest corporations in the world (and their political allies) to account by mobilising millions of people to take collective action.

We are aiming to fundamentally reshape the global economy to put people and planet over profit, but we know we can not do it alone. We build partnerships with on-the-ground activists and organisers, and we follow their lead. We innovate, experiment and embrace professional and organizational growth. We invest in people and we invest in how we work, because our vision calls on us to build the most effective, global, diverse, and talented team possible.

We highly value a diverse team and an equitable work environment where every member of our team is set up to thrive. We have taken steps to nurture this environment including an Anti-Oppression Leadership Team that seeks to facilitate movement towards an organizational community and practice rooted in love and liberation. We expect all team members to take responsibility for co-creating an equitable work community where everyone is able to do impactful, world-changing work. We recruit and encourage people identifying with marginalized communities to apply.

Scope of Work

  • Develop and execute strategic campaigns targeting financial institutions involved in funding coal, oil and gas expansion in the Asia Pacific region
  • Write and edit (and/or translate) compelling emails and campaign material to engage and mobilize our members to take action, fundraise, and build our power globally;
  • Lead on 2 campaigns at a time with direction and support from the Toxic Bonds team and our coalition partners
  • Develop and deliver creative online/offline actions which gain the attention of our targets and media
