Duties
The Technical Lead will direct all activities at the camps in Fiji and will oversee the selection and training of participating I-Kiribati teachers. The Technical Lead will conduct observations of I-Kiribati teachers and provide constructive feedback to help them improve their skills.
The Technical Lead will report to the Project Director based in Suva and this position requires travel to Kiribati multiple times per year.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead the technical design, implementation, and monitoring of short-term camps in Fiji in coordination with the Project Director;
• Liaise with a variety of stakeholders to ensure engagement and support for the activity;
• Manage staff and consultants working on short-term camps in Fiji, providing leadership, technical guidance, and support;
• Hire and provide oversight and training to American teachers (5 per camp delivery) and counselors (5 per camp delivery);
• Run the recruitment, selection and oversight of I-Kiribati teachers for short-term camps in Fiji;
• Implement all data gathering activities for all three Sub-Activities, including overseeing data entry, and coordinate with the D.C. office;
• Oversee the monitoring of project activities and reporting, including collaboration, learning, and adapting (CLA) practices to continually improve project delivery;
• Support reporting on a quarterly basis and in response to funder queries; and
• Other duties as assigned.
• Able to work in Fiji and travel at least 30% of time to Kiribati;
• Master’s degree in Education, TESOL, International Development, or a related field;
• At least five years of relevant experience, including at least three years as a technical lead or senior manager of projects of similar scope and complexity;
• Experience working with high-school age students and an understanding of program management issues for this age;
• Experience studying in a U.S high school preferred;
• Demonstrated experience and/or understanding of up-to-date language acquisition and teaching methods, ICT skill building, and cross-cultural workforce behavior development in secondary school aged youth;
• Demonstrated experience working in the educational sector, including in curriculum development;
• Demonstrated experience engaging government and educators, data gathering and monitoring across programs;
• A proven record of excellent management, leadership, decision-making, diplomacy, and interpersonal skills to ensure internal coherence among diverse team members and partners, as well as effective liaising with external stakeholders; and
• Professional fluency in English in both written and oral communication.
