Position description

The Senior Project and Grants Manager (maternity cover) will play a critical role in implementing a USAID-funded and foundations grant aimed at ensuring increased humanitarian access worldwide. This position is responsible for overseeing effective grants management, ensuring compliance with donor requirements, managing budgets, coordinating project activities, and representing the organization to external audiences. The role involves close coordination with various teams and departments to support financial, logistical, and programmatic aspects of the project.

What you will do:

Key Responsibilities: 

USAID-BHA grants management (45%)

  • Budget and Financial Management: Monitor budget expenditures, manage project under/overspend, and handle reallocated funding. Approve costs in the financial system (Agresso); assign appropriate account codes for expenditures and review accounting reports monthly; establish and maintain a donor budget, providing an overview of spending and ensuring compliance with donor contracts.

Foundations grant and staff management (25%)

  • Staff Management and Leadership: Delegate tasks and provide oversight to the Humanitarian Access Project Manager on both the USAID and foundations grants; guide the team on project deliverables, foster engagement, and promote project activities.

Programmatic and thought leadership (30%)

  • Representation and communications: Represent the organization and its projects to external audiences, including donors, the US government, humanitarian organizations, and working groups; lead on internal and external communications related to grants and donor engagement

What you will bring:

This is a great position for those with a relevant master's degree in international relations or humanitarian affairs.  A few years of project management experience in the humanitarian or development sector is required.  The role will require regular follow-up with colleagues working in a matrix managed, cross departmental, global team setting. It will also require learning new systems and processes and developing workable solutions when they do not exist. 

Note: this role is full-time and hybrid, based in the NRC USA office in Washington, DC. Though travel for this project is infrequent, the successful candidate must be able to travel internationally for up to two weeks at a time. The location of the travel may include volatile contexts in conflict settings. The position is for six months only. 

Candidates from diverse backgrounds, especially those with experience in humanitarian, refugee or displacement contexts, are encouraged to apply. 

 

Generic professional competencies: 

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in project management or monitoring and evaluation, including contract management and procurement
  • Master’s degree in related field (or bachelor’s with equivalent work experience)
  • Computer skills (common Microsoft Windows and Office applications)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Fluency in English required, second language (particularly one used in a country of NRC operation) desirable. 
  • Sense of humor desirable
