Global Zero seeks a strategic and experienced Digital Director to join our senior management team and lead all aspects of our online organizing, mobilizing and marketing activities globally.
The Digital Director will be the linchpin in the development of a digital full-court press that leverages a small but killer campaign team, a global community of senior political leaders, military commanders and national security experts, a growing group of influential artists/celebrities, hundreds of young volunteer activists, thousands of members, and a widely recognized and respected international brand. You’ll help us combine creative and bold campaigns with sharp visuals, engaging content and clear messages that break through, and equip our activists with the digital tools they need to build a critical mass of public pressure and political will against nuclear weapons.
Global Zero is spearheading an audacious campaign against nuclear weapons and leading the resistance to Donald Trump’s dangerous nuclear agenda.
We don’t believe security can be built on constant threats of mass destruction. We reject the narrative that insists we accept the enormous risks these weapons pose to our communities and our planet. We refuse to be complicit in the undemocratic, unjust and terrifyingly absolute power to kill hundreds of millions of people at the push of a button. And we will not stand idly by while Trump and other leaders pursue dangerous plans that make nuclear conflict all but inevitable.
This year, we’re ramping up our efforts online and in the streets to sound the alarm and build a fierce people-powered movement that can’t be ignored. We’re demanding anyone who is elected or running to represent us — from city council members, mayors, state legislators, members of Congress, and ultimately the next president — take bold action against nuclear weapons and the morally bankrupt acceptance of violence and oppression that keeps them in place.

This is a rare opportunity to take a leading role at a high-profile and influential organization working at every level to rid the world of nuclear weapons and shift the foundations of global security for the better.
In this position, you’ll report to the Executive Director and work alongside the Campaign Director, and will be responsible for shaping the digital vision and delivering on growth and engagement objectives. You will bring to the table current experience with digital innovation and a history of engaging online audiences in important policy debates, channeling interest and outrage into action (online and offline), and winning campaigns, as well as strong message development, writing and management skills. This senior-level role also includes management of our digital team and external consultants, and close collaboration with campaigns, fundraising and policy teams to achieve ambitious shared goals.
The Digital Director will lead the following key activities to raise the profile of our issue and organization, expand our reach and build strength over time:
Online Advocacy: Develop and implement online grassroots aspects of campaign plans, and design and execute strategies to grow and leverage social media audiences, email lists and website traffic.
Digital Marketing: Oversee all aspects of online public engagement and community management, assure consistent communication of organizational values and policy positions, and design and execute digital communication/marketing plans for Global Zero initiatives.
Influencers: Create an influencer outreach program that uses digital tools to grow the profile and connections of Global Zero staff, spokespeople and experts.
Messaging: Help develop and drive messaging direction for online campaigns, including drafting long-range narratives and rapid response.
Content Management: Create a comprehensive institutional and programmatic digital marketing plan and calendar. Serve as project manager for all digital communications deliverables including email, social media ads, and digital campaigns.
Leadership: Bring strong leadership, organizational development experience, and management acumen to our senior management team, and an affinity for mentoring junior and mid-level staff.
Collaboration: Work across teams to help them develop communications, digital, and engagement strategies to achieve mutual objectives and growth.
Transformation: Advocate for creative digital communications thinking and innovative approaches to storytelling and engagement at all levels of the organization.
Full-time exempt position with occasionally intense but generally humane hours;
$65-75k salary and amazing benefits package including 6 weeks paid leave, 12 weeks parental leave, fully-covered health insurance, 10% retirement contributions (on top of salary), green commuting expenses and other fringe benefits;
Preferably based in Washington, D.C., though possibly flexible for the right candidate willing to travel regularly;

Strong and up-to-date background in all aspects of a modern digital engagement position, with minimum 5 years experience working in increasingly leadership-oriented digital strategy roles;
Values-based message development, writing and research/testing skills;
Digital communications, storytelling and channel management expertise;
Strong executive-level communications and marketing skills, interpersonal communications and persuasion skills; and
A commitment to integrity, inclusion, compassion, and totally crushing it on the job.
