Position description

UC Davis Extension is the continuing and professional education division of UC Davis. In this capacity, UC Davis Extension partners with campus schools, colleges and faculty to create global access to the distinctive knowledge and resources of UC Davis. UC Davis Extension instructors include outstanding faculty from every school and college as well as distinctive working professionals in a wide variety of disciplines. Last year, UC Davis Extension recorded more than 62,000 enrollments in 1,400 unique classes, serving students from all 50 states and more than 115 countries. Courses are offered onsite and online in a variety of formats, including short courses, conferences, certificate programs and self-supporting master's degrees. Courses are open to the public and offered on a contract basis through partnerships with private companies, government agencies and international peer universities. UC Davis Extension is completely self-supporting, generating more than $40 million in annual revenue from course fees, public and private contracts and grants. Each year UC Davis Extension contributes nearly $10 million to UC Davis in the form of revenue shared with partner schools and colleges, fees and assessments, and course discounts extended to staff and faculty. As an academic unit of the University, UCDE employs over 200 career employees (PSS, MSP, CX, TX, SX, Academics), utilizes limited, contract and more than 50 student employees during peak periods, and draws on the expertise of over 400 by agreement instructors. 

Under general direction of the marketing director, primarily responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and monitoring of external recruitment, marketing and outreach strategies for UC Davis Extension's Center for International Education (CIE). Responsible for working with CIE leadership and UC Davis Extension's Marketing Team to create, implement and manage an annual, Center-wide marketing and travel plan, including developing policies, procedures and strategies to centralize and advance international marketing efforts, recruiting for CIE and other UC Davis Extension programs at overseas universities, government and private agencies and fairs, building productive international partner, agent and vendor relationships, leading CIE's inquiry management and agent communication strategies, and managing CIE's social media presence (in alignment with UC Davis Extension's overall social media strategy). Plays a key role in developing existing partnerships and investigating potential new international contract and open enrollment business opportunities. 


Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in international recruitment and market research, analysis, needs assessment and marketing strategies. 

Experience working in a marketing, sales or recruitment capacity, with demonstrated negotiation and professional selling skills. 

Experience developing and executing a marketing plan that includes integrated strategies and tactics. 

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in International Marketing, International Business, International Relations, Communications or a similarly relevant field. 

Experience working in a cross-cultural environment and/or international education. 

Knowledge/experience using social media and commonly used platforms for international student recruitment purposes. 

Experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects and/or tasks simultaneously and meeting various deadlines with minimum supervision. 

Experience with writing, proofing and preparing a variety of communications to ensure quality and clear messaging. 

Significant experience presenting before groups and facilitating meetings. 

Exceptional customer service skills. 

Intermediate experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), survey software, database and/or business tracking systems. 

Experience performing fiscal tasks, including purchasing, monitoring expenses, budgets and financial analysis. 

Experience entering and retrieving data from a variety of computer software; compiling, summarizing, analyzing, reporting and presenting such data. 

Superior professional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to interact professionally, tactfully, diplomatically and effectively in person, on the telephone and electronically with a diverse group of staff, students and clientele. 

Skills to establish effective working relationships with a diverse group of staff, students and clientele. 

Skills to review and analyze materials, processes and evaluative data to identify issues, areas of potential improvement or growth and make recommendations accordingly. 

Skills to work independently with minimum direction and collaboratively within a team or group.  

Preferred Qualifications:

Strongly prefer experience studying or working abroad. 

Proficiency with a second major language such as Mandarin, Spanish, Arabic or Japanese. 

Degree (or equivalent) in International Marketing, International Business, International Relations, Communications or a similarly relevant field. 

Knowledge of funding sources for international students. 

Experience communicating with international students from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, speaking different languages with varying levels of English ability. 

Experience training, mentoring and/or developing staff. 

Experience working with educational agents. 

Knowledge of UC Davis campus including its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives and infrastructure.
