Position description

As Director, Brand Partnerships, you will develop the vision and strategy for implementing an aggressive cause marketing program that positions United Way as a preferred charity of choice for major global corporations. Strong focus will be placed on generating brand alliances that produce unrestricted revenue to support the overall mission of United Way, driving brand awareness for United Way, and expanding the strategic partnerships portfolio.

The Director, Brand Partnerships will collaborate with colleagues on the Strategic and Corporate Partnerships teams, Marketing and Communications teams, along with local United Ways to maximize the development, cultivation and activation of brand partnerships including new business opportunities and renewals. The position will be responsible for ensuring best practices based on industry trends, past performance, analytics, evaluation and feedback from internal and external stakeholders.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION:

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below at a satisfactory level:

  1. Drive revenue for United Way Worldwide and the United Way Network through the acquisition of new brand partnerships, renewals and upgrades.
  2. Serve as lead strategist and subject matter expert on cause marketing activation, in collaboration with the Strategic and Corporate Partnerships teams, Marketing and Communications teams, and local United Ways.
  3. Build brand partnerships with a focus on unrestricted revenue. Develop overall pitch approaches and template materials which can be leveraged across all new business activity.
  4. Work closely with the Strategic and Corporate Partnership teams to ensure cause marketing opportunities are explored, presented and secured
  5. Work directly with the Corporate Partner and United Way’s Marketing and Communications teams during the sales process and creative development to ensure messaging supports United Way brand guidelines and key objectives.
  6. Stay up to date on consumer trends, competitive landscape insights and best practices in cause marketing, retail, digital engagement and corporate sponsorship. Leverage these insights into actionable recommendations for the Strategic and Corporate Partnerships teams, Marketing and Communications teams, and local United Ways to drive brand awareness and revenue opportunities.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience in progressively responsible positions, with significant not-for-profit corporate partnership and cause marketing experience.
  • Extensive experience in fundraising, sales, marketing and promotions required.
  • Proven track record in new business development in the not-for-profit sector needed -in competitive, matrixed environments.
  • Extensive knowledge of cause-related fundraising, business development, sales, marketing, digital promotions and communications; experience developing successful cause marketing campaigns that drive unrestricted revenue and brand awareness.
  • 20-30% travel is expected
  • Passion and commitment to United Way’s mission and values.
