Position description

EuroMed Rights is looking to recruit an experienced Project Senior Coordinator for a European Union-funded project aimed at enhancing and structuring dialogue between the EU and South Neighbourhood civil society. The name of the project is Majalat, which stands for ‘spaces, opportunities, fields and domains’ in Arabic.

Duration: Fixed term contract of one year with possibility of renewal
Starting: February 2023
Hybrid work: Telecommuting possible up to 3 days a week
Remuneration: Competitive remuneration based on salary scales and extra-legal benefits (complementary pension, hospitalisation insurance, lunch vouchers, internet, teleworking and commuting to work intervention)
Pre-requisite: Valid EU working permit – candidates without a working permit will not be considered

In short, MAJALAT is a unique initiative led by civil society organisations from the North and South of the Mediterranean that aims to build a continuous exchange between the EU and Civil Society from ten countries in the South of the Mediterranean, in continuity with previous EU structured dialogues. EuroMed Rights is the coordinator of a consortium implementing this ambitious project composed by the following partners that also constitute the project Board: Forum for Alternatives Morocco (FMAS), and Legal Agenda in Lebanon.

Description of Tasks:

The Majalat Project Senior Coordinator will undertake the following tasks, under the supervision of the Director of dialogue and with the support of a coordinator based in Tunisia and two support officers based in Tunisia and Lebanon that he/she will supervise:

  • Ensures the implementation of all Majalat activities specific to EuroMed Rights;
  • Ensures the overall coordination of the project by the three partners;
  • Coordinates the efforts of the staff of the three organisations assigned to Majalat to ensure that the required tasks are carried out in accordance with the decisions of the Majalat board of Directors and the contractual requirements;
  • Ensures that all partners’ deadlines and activity schedules are met;
  • Reinforces the team approach throughout the implementation of activities within the three partners;
  • Upon delegation from the Director of dialogue, represents the consortium in meetings with EU representatives on technical and management issues;
  • Represents the project at meetings, conferences with various stakeholders as delegated by the Director of dialogue;
  • Ensures smooth and regular communication with the project partners and the European Commission (monthly progress reports, planning of physical or virtual meetings, phone calls, etc.);
  • Ensures the respect and follow-up of contractual and internal commitments on communication, political and technical aspects;
  • Organises Majalat’s activities specifically related to EuroMed Rights (trainings, seminars, sub-grids, studies, advocacy missions, etc.), coordinates the Consortium’s activities and oversees all logistical aspects;
  • Organizes four times a year the meetings of the Majalat Board of Directors (setting the agenda and overseeing the logistics);
  • Ensures proper daily budget management, internal reports and coordinate narrative and financial reporting to the European Commission.

Profile, Skills and Background:

  • Business administration and management or related field education with minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in project management and experience working with the European Commission – preferably from NGO sector at international level. Other relevant qualifications may also be considered;
  • Skilled at managing complex and multi-stakeholder projects efficiently and diplomatically; ability to work with and reconcile the views of diverse organisations and individuals;
  • Good knowledge and proven work experience in/on the Euromed region;
  • Proven track record with civil society work in an inclusive and multifaceted way;
  • Sound knowledge of the functioning of the EU institutions and EU’s foreign policy, in particular towards EU’s Southern Neigbourhood;
  • Languages: fluency in English and French (oral and written) is imperative. Knowledge of Arabic will be considered a strong asset;
  • Computer literacy (Word and Excel required).
