Position description
Reporting to the Director of Maternal and Newborn Health, MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership (MCGL), the Technical Advisor is accountable for providing specialized technical assistance, advice and guidance through the delivery of established approaches, methods and solutions. They will collect, gather and synthesize complex information to present informed recommendations for improvement in the delivery of technical services, as well as the design and development of new, innovative solutions.
In collaboration with members of the technical team, the Technical Advisor contributes to the development of approaches, tools, technical strategies, and implementation approaches. They will support implementation of global and country programs and ensure activities are technically sound.
The Technical Advisor will coordinate with internal stakeholders to implement approaches that accelerate progress within projects supported. As a representative of MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership/Jhpiego, the Technical Advisor will demonstrate MCGL/Jhpiego’s technical capacity and program impact, reporting out findings and thereby serving an important role in ensuring results, knowledge, and learning from MCGL/Jhpiego’s programs are shared and used internally and externally. Additionally, the Technical Advisor will support robust monitoring and evaluation, business development, knowledge management, and materials development.
Responsibilities
Country-level Capacity Building
- Support country programs with strategic program guidance, staff training, capacity building and materials development
- Work with country program teams to ensure programs implement high-quality MNH technical approaches that are evidence-based and responsive to the needs of the countries and applicable donors
Technical Leadership
- Provide strategic support and guidance to relevant communities of practice
- Provide technical input on country workplans and donor reports and review program data and results to inform decision-making and technical strategies
- Identify and disseminate best practices and new technical strategies and approaches in areas of expertise
- Identify and recommend opportunities for scale up of technical programs worldwide
External Communications
- Collaborate with key MNH global partners including WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, FIGO and ICM
- Represent Jhpiego and MOMENTUM in global, regional, and national professional fora, including sharing program results in international conferences and peer-reviewed journals and publications
Required Qualifications
- Advance degree in public health or related field
- 5 years' MNH technical experience
- Demonstrated experience in supporting development of workplans and implementation of capacity building programs for improving service delivery
- Demonstrated experience participating in knowledge sharing platforms and/or technical working groups; and/or experience leveraging existing knowledge resources in planning, decision-making and providing technical assistance
- Awareness of, sensitivity to, and experience in working in multiple socio-economic settings and with multi-cultural staff and groups
- Ability to develop productive working relationships with counterparts in other agencies and organizations worldwide
- Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple, tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform
- Knowledge of international and USG donor agencies and private sector foundations
- Ability to travel up to 30% of the time
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
- Excellent skills in facilitation, team building and coordination
Preferred Qualifications
- A medical degree (nurse, midwife, or physician) with obstetric skills
- 8 years of relevant technical experience implementing and/or supporting international field based MNH programs in Africa, Latin America/Caribbean and/or Asia regions
