Position Focus:

 

This position provides strategic leadership and comprehensive management of the Latin American & Iberian Studies and European Studies Councils and acts as a university-wide liaison for the both Councils. This includes the promotion, development, and support of intellectual exchange and comprehensive understanding of the areas, particularly of historical and contemporary cultures, politics, and economies. This individual will report to the Deputy Director of the Center and support the vision and priorities of each council as determined by the faculty members. They will also support collaboration with internal and external academic constituencies for both councils.

 

Essential Duties:

 

1. With a substantial degree of initiative, the Program Director will conceive, develop, and implement all programs and activities while giving direction and leadership by supporting philosophy, mission, strategy, and annual goals and objectives. Assumes primary responsibility for publishing and distributing program information to garner program support. 2. Directs a team of program managers and support staff to work closely with faculty members associated with the council/program. 3. Develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to measure and achieve the successful outcome of the program. Develop a program evaluation framework to assess the strengths of the program and to identify areas for improvement. Responsible for measurements of grant success and related evaluations. 4. Manages fundraising, grant writing, and grant reporting activities. Collaborates with Yale Development Office to identify and evaluate current and potential future funding sources, review draft proposals, oversee submission of grants and contracts for program support, including annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications. Monitor grant spending, develop and manage the program's operating budget. Collaborates with Yale Development to identify funding opportunities, draft proposals, monitor grant spending, and write reports. 5. Manage programmatic and financial functions including annual budgets. Develops and directs the administrative infrastructure of the program. Responsible for the creation and execution of all program including lecture-series, workshops, conferences, seminars, and other programs. Ensure highest standards of excellence for each program in its planning execution and follow-up reporting. 6. In consultation with the Lead Administrator, recruit, interview and select well-qualified program staff. Responsible for supervising the staff and student support. Oversee and manage information systems, facilities, and space needs. 7. Ensure that program activities operate within the policies and procedures of the organization to effectively support program initiatives. Develop forms and records to document program activities to regularly inform leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommend structural or programmatic changes to enhance the program, as appropriate related to the mission, goals, and objectives. 8. Design and manage the delivery of services and program communications among different program activities to increase effectiveness and efficiency and promotes collaborative support of the program. Contributes to development of website and assists in the management while monitoring all changes and additions to the editorial content. 9. Provides guidance and counseling on academic, admissions, financial, and career services matters for students and prospective students interested in the Studies. Works with students, alumni and employers to identify existing and emerging employment opportunities. 10. Serves as Council liaison University wide among faculty, managers, development, and support staff. 11. May perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education and Experience:

 

Master's Degree in a related field plus three years of work in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience. Proven experience planning, organizing, and implementing various events.

 

Required Skill/Ability 1:

 

Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.

 

Required Skill/Ability 2:

 

Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the Councils and the Center.

 

Required Skill/Ability 3:

 

Proactive and resourceful. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Fluency in at least one relevant language and/or multiple proficient languages is required.

 

Required Skill/Ability 4:

 

Strong problem-solving skills. Able to balance multiple priorities, use good judgment, work under pressure and meet deadlines.

 

Required Skill/Ability 5:

 

Demonstrated experience with budgeting and financial management.

 

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

 

PhD or other advanced degree with seven years of experience in a relevant field. Proven experience developing and managing programs for an academic institution, non-profit, or other global organization. Fundraising experience.
