Position description

Chemonics seeks a human rights advisor for the anticipated USAID-funded Promoting the Rule of Law in Myanmar (PRLM) project. PRLM aims to protect human rights and increase access to justice for all people of Myanmar. To achieve this goal, PRLM will support accountability and competency within justice sector institutions and enhance civil society’s legal services and advocacy efforts. By doing so, the activity will promote universal democratic values and positively influence the ongoing political transition in Myanmar. PRLM will build on USAID/Burma’s current and past investments in the rule of law sector, which is a cornerstone of the U.S. government’s policy to protect human rights and advance the democratic transition. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical assistance and training on human rights to partner institutions and civil society organizations in Myanmar;
  • Track, monitor, and report on human rights issues in Myanmar’s conflict-affected areas;
  • Receive, analyze, process, and report politically delicate information with discretion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in law or a field relevant to human rights required;
  • At least seven years of experience implementing human rights activities in conflict-affected and transition countries in positions of increasing responsibility;
  • Ability to monitor, analyze, and report on current human rights issues in-country as well as experience doing so;
  • Experience providing training and technical assistance on human rights to justice sector institutions and civil society organizations;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing;
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity;
  • Fluency in English.
