Position description

Team Rubicon (TR) is seeking a Senior Instructional Designer. The Senior Instructional Designer will leverage their experience working across multiple instructional delivery modalities such as online, mobile, virtual instructor-led training, just-in-time training, job aids and traditional in class training. This will require a curiosity for learner-focused, high impact, and targeted learning experiences with emphasis on the learning engagement to provide educational and professional development for our volunteers, staff and leaders. The Senior Instructional Designer will be responsible for producing practical skills-based training for volunteers who deploy on disaster operations and in support of humanitarian services locally, nationally and internationally.

Every day will be a challenge, but every month brings new opportunities for an organization that is quickly becoming a household name in disaster response. This position reports to TR’s Deputy Director of Learning and Insights and is based out of TR’s National Headquarters in Los Angeles, CA.


  • Facilitate project meetings with other team members, SMEs/stakeholders, contractors, external partners to design and develop creative, learner-centered, and outcome-based curriculum
  • Develop learning media solutions that align with learning objectives
  • Work from established learning objectives/outcomes to design learning content from TR-authored resources, external content or 3rd party curriculum
  • Collaborate with stakeholders for feedback to ensure learning requirements are effectively met through learning media solutions
  • Manage project timelines and coordinators with team members and all stakeholders to meet deadlines, adhering to established best practices in learning and media design



  • 5 - 7 years of experience in instructional design, learning design and/or professional development role producing public-facing, learning rich media solutions
  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, organizational development, talent development; adult learning or educational technology; or master’s degree is preferred
  • Experience working with Articulate Storyline and Rise or skilled experience with Adobe Captivate
  • Experience developing deliverables using Adobe Creative Cloud applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Adobe Acrobat Pro, After Effects, or other motion graphics application
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications and project management software such as Microsoft Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, or Asana
  • Experience producing media for subject matter ranging from organizational behavior/culture to skills training and to candidates with previous experience in the fields of domestic and international disaster response, mitigation and emergency medical operations is preferred
