Position description

The Development Officer provides administrative support for the day-to-day operations of the Office of the Executive Vice President of Strategy and Development, as well as proposal, partnership and business development support and management to the Strategic Partnerships Unit (SPU). This position will report directly to the Executive Vice President of Strategy and Development.

Your Background & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in international development, international relations, business, communications, or related field;
  • 3+ years of experience in business development, fundraising and/or partnership development strongly required;
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, including the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced working environment;
  • Demonstrated capability to work independently and as part of a team, to take initiative and meet deadlines within strict time constraints;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and anticipate challenges;
  • Experience with developing and/or coordinating budgets for proposals/programs preferred;
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills with demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity and professionalism in written correspondence and report writing;
  • Ability to engage pro-actively with a wide range of partners, experts and other contacts
  • Demonstrated, strong background in research and strong skills in presenting
  • High emotional intelligence and tonal awareness to maintain confidentiality and discretion in personal interactions and written communication;
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Products, including Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint
  • Excellent time management skills, flexibility and a positive attitude;
  • You must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.

Your Daily Tasks

Office of the Executive Vice President (EVP), Strategy and Development Group:

  • Coordinate and maintain the EVP’s schedule of internal and external meetings including scheduling, briefing material preparation and coordination, and follow-up as requested;
  • Act as the point of contact among executives, employees, clients and other external partners;
  • Make travel and accommodation arrangements;
  • Draft and format information for internal and external communication – memos, emails, presentations, and reports;
  • Conduct research and write memos, reports, presentations and other materials for internal and external communication; 
  • Support the Strategy and Development Group with administrative, research and other tasks as assigned, including drafting internal reports, conducting competitive landscape analysis and managing the group’s SharePoint;
  • Take minutes during meetings and write analytical summaries;
  • Manage expense reporting and procurement for EVP;
  • Maintain organizational memberships;
  • Other support duties as needed.

Strategic Partnerships Unit (SPU):

  • Support all aspects of designing and preparing proposals in response to donor funding opportunities across all IREX practices;
  • Coordinate and manage concepts and proposals for private donors;
  • Coordinate a combination of bids simultaneously;
  • Conduct research on existing programming, possible partners, design approaches, potential personnel and other assignments;
  • Research costing issues, develop budgets and prepare cost proposals;
  • Prepare written and visual components of proposals, to include drafting attachments and other sections of proposals as needed;
  • Assist with editing, proofreading and formatting proposal documents;
  • Advance development of partnerships with local, regional and international organizations, including scheduling meetings between IREX and other meetings as well as drafting agreements;
  • Support the Strategic Partnerships Unit with administrative tasks as assigned;
  • Assist with data entry, cleaning and management of Salesforce and SharePoint for SPU;
  • Monitor donors and other databases to identify potential funding opportunities for SPU to pursue.
