Position description

Since 2016, the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) and the Feminist UN Campaign have been publishing an annual report card grading the UN Secretary-General’s progress against a feminist agenda. ICRW is seeking a Research Consultant, contingent upon funding, to assist with research activities and writing for the report.

Task Description

Under the supervision of ICRW’s Global Policy Advocate, the Research Consultant will undertake the following activities:
• Assist in scheduling key informant interviews (KIIs) with UN experts, taking notes and conducting KIIs
• Coding and analyzing KIIs and speeches using qualitative data analysis software, NVivo
• Conducting background research on UN activities across the six Feminist UN Campaign focus areas
• Conducting social media analysis of Secretary-General’s Twitter account, and other relevant posts 
• Designing and disseminating civil society survey, analyzing results and summarizing conclusions 
• Writing relevant sections of the report, copy-editing, and contributing to overall analysis, scoring and communications materials for publication 

Required Skills: 

• Master’s degree in public policy, international affairs or related discipline (current graduate student, or Bachelor’s degree with relevant work or research experience, is fine)
• Strong qualitative data analysis skills (knowledge of coding in NVivo)
• Demonstrated knowledge of the UN system and related gender equality issues
• Organized, experienced in analyzing and summarizing large amounts of news and information
