Position description

An exciting opportunity has become available for a new team member to join the U.S. Commercial Service at the US Embassy in London. 

This will be a hands-on and fast paced career opportunity where you will take responsibility for commercial programs and promote the export of US products and services in a variety of different sectors such as consumer goods, automotive and transport, and others. This opportunity is multifaceted and will require a shrewd and insightful approach to supporting US industry interests in the UK. 

You will bring a strong knowledge of these sectors to the role and your ability to develop and maintain contacts in government, trade associations and the business community. Additionally, you will have experience with researching and monitoring markets to identify key trade and market opportunities and the ability to write in-depth market research studies. 

In this role, you will be the go-to person to provide substantive counselling to US business executives on the UK market, as well as UK business executives seeking American suppliers and potential partners. 

You will have the opportunity to attend, plan and support US trade promotion events as a key point of contact and representative of the US Embassy.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED 
All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications 

EDUCATION:
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, Finance, Public relations/policy or International Relations is required. 

EXPERIENCE:
Post qualification experience of working in private industry or in the public sector in a trade promotion, export, consulting or similar position. 

LANGUAGE:
Fluent written and spoken English. 

JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Must have working knowledge of the UK economy, industry, business, and government. 

Working knowledge of common commercial practices in the UK. 

Knowledge of the UK regulatory framework/government policies. 

Familiarity with key trade events. 

General knowledge of U.S. business practices. 

SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Ability to develop and maintain a broad network of mid-to-high level contacts with UK private sector and government officials in assigned industry sectors. 

Ability to research and execute well-written and accurate market research reports. 

Ability to give sound, objective advice to U.S. and UK business clients through effective, comprehensive and well-written messages and/or teleconferences and webinars. 

Ability to explain thoroughly and clearly the UK regulatory environment and government policies. 

Ability to plan and organize various activities associated with major trade events, receptions, and seminars. 

Excellent customer service skills and strong interpersonal skills. 

Must have excellent writing skills.
