The Tow Center for Digital Journalism, based at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, provides journalists with the skills and knowledge to lead the future of digital journalism and serves as a research and development center for the profession as a whole. The Center commissions research in emerging areas, develops teaching methods and courses, and offers fellowships to academics, journalists and technologists.
The Tow Center is seeking a Senior Staff Associate I to report on and promote the Tow Center’s research and to raise the profile of the Center as a whole. The researcher will collaborate on Tow Center projects at the intersection of journalism and technology. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to high-profile research projects and publish articles on media, journalism and technology while developing contacts in the field of
journalism.
The Senior Staff Associate I will work in close collaboration with the Director of the Tow Center on research outputs, including:
Publishing: work with the research team and Program Assistant to publish relevant works in the Tow Center’s newsletter and publish articles and maintain the Center’s digital presence on the Tow Center vertical at Columbia Journalism Review;
Reporting and Interviewing: contribute to Tow Center research projects through reporting and interviewing relevant subjects; and
Website: produce, edit and update content on the Tow Center vertical.
This position is externally funded for one year, with reappointment contingent on performance and the continuation of available funding.
Salary Range: $71,000–$81,000.
