Position description

Are you energised by the thought of working in an organisation that supports people and communities to tackle the root causes of poverty and injustice? Do you love the idea of working in a global organisation with an inclusive and collaborative culture? Then Trocaire wants to hear from you! Read on for more details about this exciting opportunity.

The Opportunity

Climate change is destroying the lives and livelihoods of the most marginalised people in countries where Trocaire works. They are paying the price for a problem they have not created, and for which they have least resources to cope. In addition, climate change amplifies existing political, social and economic inequalities.

We want to see a sustainable world, where people and the planet flourish. Richer countries, including Ireland, have a responsibility not only to dramatically reduce their own greenhouse gas emissions, but also to provide financing for adaptation efforts in the South and to provide finance to deal with loss and damage resulting from climate breakdown.

In this exciting role, you will strategically advocate for swift, ambitious and just climate action. You will analyse the issues, devise clear strategies and policy solutions and work with partners and in civil society networks for effective change. You will engage with media and lobby decision-makers in Ireland, within the EU and at the UN.

About you

To carry out this exciting role, you will have the ability to analyse complex justice, human rights and political issues and devise appropriate solutions.

You will be familiar with issues of climate justice and have an excellent gender analysis.

You will be a strategic thinker and an effective advocate, skilled at communicating complex policy issues to different audiences and decision-makers. You will have excellent report writing skills.
