ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY: The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college at USF with programs offered at all three campuses and is home to the School of Humanities, the School of Social Sciences and the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The School of Interdisciplinary Global Studies (SIGS) provides knowledge on global studies that is interdisciplinary and diverse. SIGS brings together Political Science, Africana Studies, Latin American & Caribbean Studies, and International Studies to offer courses on politics, culture, history, and political economy. Some of our key areas of expertise include the transatlantic region, social movements, diasporic studies, human rights and genocide, citizenship and identity, and migration. Our students obtain jobs worldwide in various fields of government, non-profits, and the private sector.
POSITION SUMMARY: The School of Interdisciplinary Global Studies (SIGS) at the University of South Florida (USF) invites applications for a 9-month full-time and tenure-earning Assistant Professor position beginning on August 7, 2025. The position will be located on USF’s Sarasota Manatee Campus. The candidate may be required to
sometimes teach on the Tampa Campus. The hiring builds on USF’s 2021 Strategic Plan, which emphasizes global and national security as a core area of institutional focus and will also strengthen the School’s masters and doctoral degrees in politics and international affairs. Additionally, the position builds on the USF Sarasota Manatee’s Campus’ efforts to build an interdisciplinary research cluster in cyber security and technology. The candidate will have the opportunity to engage with the Global and National Security Institute (GNSI), Cyber Florida, and other entities within the university. The teaching load is two courses per semester (four courses per academic year).
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM: The minimum requirement for this position is a Ph.D. in political science, government, international studies, or international relations, international security,
cybersecurity, or related fields from an accredited institution. The successful candidate must have demonstrated expertise at the intersection of security and
technology. Applications from individuals who are ABD will be accepted, but the degree must be conferred by the time of appointment
PREFERRED: The School seeks a candidate with expertise in global or national security that intersects with technology. Preference will be given to candidates specializing in one or more of the following areas:
- Information and influence operations (e.g., disinformation, propaganda, electoral interference)
- Artificial Intelligence
- Emerging technologies and inter-state competition (e.g., weapons, future of warfare, space competition; semi-conductors, critical cyber infrastructure)
- Cyber warfare (e.g., malicious hacking)
- Technology and intelligence (e.g., AI + technology ethics/political impacts, technology and intelligence gathering, OSINT, smart cities, big data and
surveillance technologies)
- International cyber cooperation (e.g., diplomatic efforts to address cyber threats, international policies on cyber security).
