Position description

We are seeking a Senior Manager for Geopolitics to join the Hyundai Motor Group Government Affairs team in Washington, D.C. The Senior Manager will advance the Government Affairs function for Hyundai Motor Group (“the Group”) by ensuring proactive engagement and effective advocacy with government entities that allows the Group to foster an environment conducive to achieving our objectives. You will play a crucial role in cultivating relationships with key decision-makers, tracking policy developments, guiding strategic decisions on the most effective actions to influence relevant policy, and offering valuable insights on global governmental and regulatory factors to consider when making decisions about our products and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stay abreast of global political dynamics and policy trends, providing insights into their implications for the Group.
  • Monitor geopolitical developments to assess their impact on our global operations.
  • Lead liaison efforts with think tanks and interest groups by attending relevant policy seminars, conferences, and government briefings, focusing on global policy matters.
  • Distill complex information into concise and actionable memos/papers for headquarters, emphasizing the global policy landscape.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key government officials globally.
  • Develop a network of contacts within foreign policy circles to enhance the Group’s understanding of international regulatory environments.
  • Collaborate with international teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment with global government affairs initiatives.
  • Provide guidance on potential impacts of global affairs and conflicts on the Group’s operations.
  • Use advanced knowledge to effectively communicate insights on global policy trends to senior leadership, contributing to informed decision-making.
  • Exercise independent judgement to proactively identify and address emerging geopolitical issues that may affect the Group’s operations.
  • Develop crisis management strategies for potential challenges arising from global developments.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, degree in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Law, or a related field is preferred. Master’s degree a plus
  • Eight or more years of experience working in government affairs, with a specific focus on geopolitical matters.
  • Proven ability to analyze policy trends, providing strategic insights.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex information into concise memos/papers.
  • Strong network of contacts within global government circles.
  • Leadership experience, with the ability to collaborate effectively across international teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments, particularly in the context of global trade, policy developments, and foreign investments.
  • Strong understanding of geopolitics and connections to the US State Department, Department of Commerce, and Defense.

Physical Requirements:

  • Normal office duties
  • Travel required

Salary commensurate with experience.
