Position description

We are seeking a highly qualified Deterrence Analyst to support NATO and allied defense initiatives. This critical position involves analyzing threats, developing strategic plans, and advising on deterrence and defense strategies within and beyond the Euro-Atlantic area. The ideal candidate will bring proven experience in research, analysis, and policy development in international relations and military strategic environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of military forces, posture, planning, and operations to enhance deterrence and defense capabilities.
  • Research and evaluate international security policies, focusing on the Instruments of Power, particularly the Military Instrument of Power (MIoP).
  • Provide strategic-level deterrence advice integrating Military, Political, Economic, and Information Instruments of Power.
  • Collaborate with military headquarters or similar environments to develop strategic plans, gap analysis, and policy recommendations.
  • Utilize advanced knowledge of deterrence principles to advise on NATO’s operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and recommendations for senior leadership and stakeholders.


Qualifications:
Mandatory Criteria:

  • Experience:
    • At least 7–10 years of experience in government, military, or academic settings analyzing deterrence, defense strategies, and threats.
    • Demonstrated expertise in researching and analyzing security studies and deterrence principles at the military strategic level.
  • Education:
    • Master’s degree in Political Science, International Studies, Security Studies, or a related field is preferred.
    • Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience may be substituted.
  • Clearance:
    • Active NATO or National SECRET (or higher) security clearance.
  • Proficiency:
    • English language proficiency equivalent to STANAG 6001 (SLP 3333 or higher).
    • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite and collaborative software tools.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Valid NATO Nation passport with no travel restrictions.
    • Citizenship of a NATO member nation.

Preferred Skills:

  • Previous experience working with international organizations, coalitions, or national governments.
  • Published research or practical work in deterrence theory, defense strategy, or international relations.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences.


Scoring Metrics:

  • Candidates will be assessed based on their experience in deterrence analysis, defense strategy, and operations. Emphasis will be placed on their understanding and application of deterrence principles at the military strategic level, as well as their ability to conduct research and analysis in international relations, security studies, and the Instruments of Power. Additional criteria include demonstrated expertise in policy development, strategic planning, and gap analysis, alongside relevant academic qualifications and certifications.
