Amnesty International Ukraine is looking for a Ukraine National Researcher
We are looking for a person who:
- Has proven professional or academic experience in conducting research; international experience will be an advantage.
- Has a Master's degree or higher in social sciences and humanities, a PhD degree would be an advantage.
- Has specialised knowledge and, preferably, first-hand experience in the field of human rights in Ukraine.
- Demonstrates excellent command of English (C1 or higher), is fluent in Ukrainian (B2-C1 level for foreigners); is able to draft texts in a variety of styles, such as research reports, official correspondence, and research-based publications for the media.
- Regardless of citizenship, is willing to be based in Ukraine.
- Has proven experience of writing research materials for a variety of audiences, as well as understanding of the importance of tailoring materials for various target audiences.
- Understands the importance and main challenges of human rights defence, particularly taking into account the socio-cultural Ukrainian context.
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate in a sensitive manner with different stakeholders and at-risk groups.
- Has excellent time-management skills, including prioritising tasks under tight deadlines.
- Is ready to deepen knowledge and implement intersectional and anticolonial approaches in research practice.
- Shares the values and principles of the Amnesty International movement.
Responsibilities and tasks:
- To monitor, research, investigate, and analyse human rights-related developments in order to provide timely, accurate, independent, and impartial assessments and expert advice on the human rights situation in Ukraine.
- To organize, take part in and lead, upon agreement, field research and other missions, leading specifically on information-gathering, fact-finding, analysis, and assessment of human rights issues, including in response to crisis situations.
- To represent Amnesty International on the ground and with external stakeholders, including on governmental, inter-governmental and various public forums, as well as to all forms of mass media, civil society organisations, and political, economic, and other actors.
- To write and present high-quality reports and other materials for publication and internal use, contribute to and provide expert advice on written and other materials drafted by other departments.
- To contribute to the development of strategies and plans for research and campaigns.
- To participate in communications between Amnesty International Ukraine and other Amnesty departments.
- To contribute to the development and maintenance of an effective information management system.
