Position description

VAUNET is the association for commercial audiovisual media in Germany. The diverse business activities pursued by its approximately 150 members range from TV and radio to internet and streaming services. The association´s work focuses on convergent development in the markets for audiovisual media and plays an active role in shaping the relevant parameters at both a national and European level. The aim of the trade association is to create acceptance for the political and economic concerns of audiovisual media enterprises and raise awareness of the major socio-political and cultural significance of this industry in the digital age. VAUNET’s headquarters are in Berlin and it has a further office in Brussels.

To support our legal team, especially in our Brussels office, we are now seeking a (Senior) European Affairs Manager.

Your role will be to support VAUNET’s work in Europe. You will analyse and evaluate all legal and regulatory developments relevant to radio, audio, and audiovisual media. You will advise the association and its member companies, primarily on current legal matters relating to copyright, data protection, media and telecommunications. You will organise meetings and workshops and represent VAUNET on internal and external committees. One particular area of focus will be on drawing up policy analyses, establishing positions and producing statements on the basis of technological and economic developments within the media industry.

Your remit in detail:

  • Monitoring political and legal developments at European level;
  • Developing and coordinating legal positions, statements and briefings and drafting lobby and communication plans;
  • Representing the association’s interests when dealing with various target groups (e.g. EU institutions, regulatory authorities, industry committees) by attending hearings, conferences, etc.;
  • Leading working groups and responding to members’ enquiries;
  • Acting as an intermediary between the legal office in Berlin and the area of European affairs in Brussels.

You possess the following skills:

  • You have a degree in law, politics or European studies, or a similar subject;
  • You are familiar with the regulatory framework and market situation in the digital media business. You possess in-depth knowledge of copyright, data protection and media law. Knowledge of IT and telecommunications law is also advantageous;
  • You have gained at least three years’ relevant professional experience, e.g. at a media company, in an interest group or at a political institution;
  • You should ideally have practical experience of the procedures at the European and national institutions and regulatory authorities;
  • You possess relevant industry knowledge and preferably already have an existing network in media/business/political circles;
  • You have a very good command of German and English; a good command of French is also desirable;
  • You combine the ability to work within a team with a willingness to seize the initiative and take personal responsibility.
