Position description

Global Witness must be able to continue to confront corruption and the systems that enable it. We’re recruiting a New York-based Head of Major Gifts to raise funds across the US and Canada for our critical work.

About us

When someone is murdered defending their home because big business wants their land, this is corruption. When people struggle for shelter while empty mansions are used to launder money – this is corruption. When a child breathes polluted air because coal companies and politicians put profits before people – this is corruption.

Our mission is to campaign to end this, and we do this by carrying out hard-hitting investigations, exposing the facts, and pushing to change the system. We are independent, not-for-profit, and we work with partners around the world in our fight for justice.

About the role

This role is critical in supporting the growth of our individual major gifts program in North America. You’ll maximize revenue by identifying and cultivating new prospects, as well as facilitating and securing income from our existing high-value relationships to meet our ambitious fundraising targets.

You’ll lead and inspire a Development Associate, providing key managerial support in this fast-paced team. Your hands-on and flexible approach will see your team deliver tailored communications, high output meetings, and exciting events. 

Finally, you’ll enjoy working alongside our senior team in our Washington DC and London, UK offices while working independently from New York.

Qualifications

You’ll bring your experience as a senior fundraiser with a track record in identifying, navigating and developing relationships with high net worth individuals in the US You’ll also look after our existing major donors, keeping them informed about our work and its impact.

The major gifts team needs to be highly organized to meet our ambitious fundraising targets. A key part of the role will include administration and database management, along with an ability to prioritize and to meet deadlines within a target driven environment.

This role will be based in New York or our office in Washington, DC with travel overseas.
