Position description

The Communications Assistant will work to support communications strategies that advance the organization’s advocacy objectives by providing research, reporting, email, social media and administrative support for all members of the communications team. 

Media Relations

  • Compile daily clips and track the organization’s media impressions 

  • Work with media relations team to maintain and develop media outreach databases 

  • Provide on-site support for Human Rights First press events
  • Proofread press releases and other public facing documents 


Digital

  • Post blogs, resources, and other content on the website
  • Maintain Human Rights First’s Twitter account
  • Assist with creating social media content, including image research
  • Use the Salsa eCRM database to configure, test, schedule, and send petitions, action alerts, email messages, registration forms, and event invites
  • Track and report on performance analytics for digital content
  • Assist with D.C. based film shoots

 Administrative 

  • Complete expense reports for the Senior Director of Communications
  • Manage and update the communications calendar
  • Other duties as assigned 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Mass Media, Political Science, International Relations, or another related field and 1-2 years’ relevant experience
  • Traditional and digital media savvy with strong writing and editing skills 
  • Organized and creative thinker
  • Basic familiarity with HTML
  • Demonstrated interest in human rights
  • Preference for candidates with the following: web-editing experience, familiarity with eCRM databases and email platforms, familiarity with Adobe Suite and/or InDesign
