Position description

To support research program of the Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies, and to provide recent university graduates with broad practical experience regarding the public and private-sector policy analysis process in Washington, D.C.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Director of the Reischauer Center with research on priority analytical projects, with particular emphasis on the functioning of Washington’s “idea industry”; global political cities; Eurasian political economy; regionalism; and comparative public-health issues.
  • Assist in organizing a rigorous and substantive seminar series for the Reischauer Center, focusing on finding best-practice solutions, through comparative public-policy analysis, for emerging energy and health-care issues.
  • Assist in developing web-base system for diffusing ideas generated at the Reischauer Center on a global basis.
  • Perform other research and policy analysis tasks as appropriate.

Qualifications

BA in social sciences, Asian studies, international relations or relevant field; some language facility/proficiency in East Asian language highly desirable.  Interest in international affairs and/or East Asia a plus.

Some related experience required. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.  

Preferred Qualifications

2-4 years in a professional work environment, preferably in a research capacity, preferred.  2-4 years with research databases, archives, data resources, and online research tools, preferred.  Experience in working with digital video cameras, audio recorders and still cameras and experience in web site management and updating skills and Internet best practices, helpful.  Experience writing, proofreading and editing assignments in print and on the web preferred.
