Position description

Greenheart International, located in Chicago, Illinois, is a nonprofit committed to connecting people and planet to create a more peaceful and sustainable global community. We achieve this through a unique and diverse collection of programs fostering cultural exchange, eco-fair trade, volunteerism, personal development and environmentalism.

Our Greenheart Development Department provides funding and support for Greenheart Odyssey, our youth programs equipping under-resourced students in Chicago, along with our international high school and college students, to become globally-minded community leaders. By planning fundraising events and building donor relationships, our team provides scholarships for youth to learn and grow through summer camp, international travel experiences, leadership conferences, and community service opportunities.

  • Assist with logistical planning of events, including our annual Greenheart Gala
  • Help to implement the event marketing plan
  • Work with team to create promotional materials
  • Research  and solicit corporate sponsorships and in-kind donations
  • Ensure all donations are recorded


  • Implement the monthly e-blast giving campaign
  • Create a template for development emails include solicitations, events, recognition, and taxes
  • Monitor donations and their effect on specific giving campaigns
  • Develop “Best Practices” for data entry and donor recognition
  • Research Chicago corporations and their stewardship goals
  • Develop marketing materials for donors
  • Assist with the database for fundraising and outreach initiatives
  • Record and analyze fundraising data, including the NEON website and webpage

Other Greenheart Support

  • Assist in other Greenheart projects and programs as needed, especially those related to development
  • Assistance with the alumni network as necessary


  • Bachelor’s degree in progress or higher. Previous interns have majored in: Nonprofit Management, Political Science, International Relations, Finance, Business, English, Communications, and Hospitality
  • Highly detail oriented and organized
  • Outgoing personality with a willingness to learn
  • Excellent communication skills (phone and email)
  • Self-directed and flexible
  • Working knowledge of Excel
  • Event planning experience is a plus
  • Genuine desire to promote youth development, cultural exchange, and community service
