Position description

Valens Global is looking for a Manager for our Business Development (BD) division. The BD Manager will be responsible for identifying, qualifying, and securing new business opportunities. The BD Manager will be primarily focused on developing business in the private sector, but will also be responsible for pursuing business opportunities within the federal contracting space. The successful candidate will be expected to manage proposal development and submission for both private sector and government bids.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Generating and closing sales of Valens’s products and services, with an emphasis on commercial sales. 

  • Collaborating with senior management, including the CEO, COO, and Research Division to identify and advance new business opportunities.

  • Managing a small team of two to four staff through delegation and providing adequate guidance. 

  • Managing all aspects of proposal development, including proposal writing, editing, and production efforts from receipt of RFP through delivery for both private sector and government proposals. 

  • Managing partner relationships and building relationships with new partners.

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Prospecting for and analyzing solicitations (e.g., RFP, RFQ, RFI) in conjunction with other customer requirements, and determining appropriate response strategies.

  • Coordinating efforts between Valens Global and partner organizations on proposals.

  • Working with the team to gather critical organizational information necessary to develop technical, management, and past performance volumes.

  • Providing detailed guidance to proposal writers/contributors and subcontractors.

  • Support the team’s brand awareness/marketing efforts.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or minor in international relations, political science, foreign policy, Middle East/Africa Studies, etc. We are looking for a clear interest in the fields with which Valens’ work intersects. 

  • Three years of demonstrated experience in sales.

  • Excellent writing skills, including a strong ability to summarize information concisely in an effective and timely manner.

  • Excellent communicator able to convey points persuasively.

  • Authorization to work in the United States.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the government grant-making/contracting pipeline process (from capture to submission) including familiarity with: GovWin or similar federal procurement platform; market and competitive intelligence research.

  • Demonstrated experience carrying out granular analysis either through publications or examples of client-based work. 

  • Management, leadership, and/or project management experience.  

  • Social media marketing and/or brand building experience.
