We’re looking to hire an energetic, detail-oriented individual for our Production team, with strong technical and editorial skills. In this role, you will manage the acquisition and recording of all incoming video content for the PBS NewsHour. You will work closely with both editorial and production staffs, keeping abreast of breaking news around the world. You’ll also be responsible for overseeing ENG crew operations, logistical planning, along with developing and implementing strategies, systems and process for effective, efficient and smooth operation of the assignment desk.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
You’re able to multi-task in stressful situations, yet stay calm and collected. You think outside the box when problem solving and have a backup plan always ready. You understand how we do things and have suggested improvements to make workflows easier.
You are a resource to NewsHour staff, supporting both broadcast and digital teams in acquiring footage for show segments, livestreams, clips posted on-line and via social media platforms - all while alerting production teams of rights restrictions for incoming footage. You have a strong knowledge of ingest and assigning metadata, along with the ability to work with technicians to trouble-shoot issues to ensure producers have access to video materials.
You keep a pulse on news events, and developments at the White House, Capitol Hill, the Supreme Court and other federal agencies and are the go-to person for securing credentials and access. You’ll create/distribute a daily daybook of key events to the news director and editorial staff.
Your attention to detail will be integral in logistics planning. You’ll be the point person for ENG field shoots, responsible for following union requirements, creating the schedule, crew calls, monitoring overtime, and meal penalties. You’re a team player, ready to jump in to help wherever needed, including filling in as Production Manager and working on special projects.
