Position description

American Councils for International Education is a premier, international nonprofit creating educational opportunities that prepare individuals and institutions to succeed in an increasingly interconnected and rapidly changing world. Through academic exchanges, overseas language immersion, data-driven research, and educational development programs, American Councils designs and administers innovative programs and language assessments that broaden individual perspectives, increase knowledge, and deepen understanding.
Since 1974, American Councils has worked in 90 countries important to national security, prosperity, and peace, and built a community of more than 94,000 Alumni, including national leaders, ministers, members of parliament, ambassadors, and CEOs.

The United States – Central Asia Enterprise Fellowship Alumni Association (U.S.-CAEF Alumni Association) is a nascent association of graduates of a scholarship program which has been working in the five republics of Central Asia. We are seeking a knowledgeable strategic planning consultant to coach, instruct, and facilitate discussions to assist a leadership group of alumni in the creation of an action plan to prepare a strategic plan for forming a self-sustaining association.

The primary duty of the consultant will be to guide a small planning committee as they develop a mission, vision, objectives, strategies, and implementation plan.

The association currently has 286 members in about 30 countries. All are nominal members of the association by virtue of being scholarship winners. The alumni need a plan to establish a sustainable alumni association which will provide alumni for years to come.

The plan will need to show the specific steps needed to establish such an association. The consultant will be expected to work with the leadership team to complete a strong outline of a strategic plan for the association which includes a detailed and specific action plan for its completion over a 12 month period following the consulting assignment.

The consultant selected for the position will have experience with strategic planning, organizational development, and non-profit organizations. Familiarity with Central Asia is preferred. The work will be in English.

The consultant will work virtually with the alumni leadership team (located in Central Asia) to complete the action plan for presentation to the U.S.-CAEF board of directors in January.
